Radio has become increasingly corporate with recent consolidations and pressure to program playlists for the “lowest common denomenator.” Basically, corporate radio programs their playlist with the same small number of songs designed to appeal to the greatest amount of people. While this makes sense because radio wants as many people as possible to listen, it often strips stations’ quality of music.

What remains to be seen is whether Indie 103 will yield the same successes and listener numbers as during their terrestrial years. After all, you can’t listen to a web-only station in the car.

What can listeners do to improve radio? Demand better content.
