MAP Awards 2008
Uncategorized |
Last night I attended the MusiCares MAP Awards. MAP, which stands for Musicians’ Assistance Program, is a great charity program that helps musicians overcome addiction and stay sober. It is one of my favorite charities/causes, and the annual MAP Awards is one of my favorite charity events.
Last night, Alice Cooper and Slash were both receiving awards. Blind Melon started off the performances, followed by Camp Freddy. Steven Tyler, who presented the award for Slash, joined Camp Freddy to sing “Mama Kin” and “Whole Lotta Love.” I knew Steven Tyler was incredibly talented, but WOW. His voice sounded AMAZING. He really does have one of the best voices in rock ‘n’ roll. “Mama Kin” was rocking, and “Whole Lotta Love” was right on, with a whole lot of delay on the vocals.
Following the Camp Freddy set, Bernie Taupin presented the award for Alice Cooper. I have seen two Alice shows, and he always gave a killer performance. Last night was no different. His band is kick-ass and Alice proves to still be a phenomenal showman.
After the show ended, I went backstage for the post-show “hang.” Everyone was in good spirits and it was a fun night overall. Alice was especially incredibly nice friendly to everyone, confirming his reputation. Below are some pics I took with Alice and Matt Sorum of Velvet Revolver, who performed with Camp Freddy. My apologies for the low quality, but we took them with a Blackberry.

(Bad pic of me, good pic of Alice.)

(Thanks to Marcy and thanks again to Jon for the pics!)
